New Hampshire’s Wildlife Is at a Tipping Point

Approximately 1,500 New Hampshire wild animals are injured or orphaned every year, and they need our help to be treated, rehabilitated, and returned to the wild where they belong.

+ Active licensed NH Wildlife Rehabilitators have dwindled from 19 to 3.

+ Human encroachment on wildlife territory is causing more injuries to wildlife.

+ The current process of care for injured or orphaned wildlife from rescue to release is inefficient and time consuming.

+ Fewer veterinary professionals are able to provide medical care to wildlife or to learn the skills of working with wildlife.

WE HAVE A PLAN

  • The New Hampshire Veterinary Center for Wildlife will provide specialized veterinary care for assessment, medical treatment (including surgery), and rehabilitation for injured wildlife in a central New Hampshire location.
  • With one central location for medical care and rehabilitation, wild animals will experience less stress, heal more quickly, have higher survival rates and be more likely to return to the wild.
  • Dr. Michael Dutton, founder and lead veterinarian, uses his vast knowledge and experience to care for injured wild animals at our facility. His past community service includes work for NH Audubon, Wings Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, NH Fish & Game, the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire, and others. The Center for Wildlife will absorb the functions and experience of Wings Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and its founder.

What We Envision

Establishing the New Hampshire Veterinary Center for Wildlife is not just about providing immediate care to injured animals; it’s about investing in the future of wildlife conservation and veterinary medicine.

The New Hampshire Veterinary Center for Wildlife aims to be a crucial statewide resource providing free skilled veterinary care for wildlife, public educational programs, training, and rehabilitation facilities. Our mission is to return as many animals as possible back to the wild.

How You Can Help

With your support, we can create a facility that not only saves the lives of our injured and orphaned wildlife but also empowers future generations of veterinarians and New Hampshire’s youth to become stewards of wildlife welfare.

Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of New Hampshire’s wildlife and the ecosystems they inhabit.
